Comfy Work From Home Fashion

By Alyssa Laffitte on October 10, 2020

As you begin to work from home, you won’t need to wear your work clothes as often anymore. You might be trying to figure out what to wear as you work from home. In this article, we’ll discuss comfy fall work from home fashion.

We’ll start by discussing the types of tops you can wear while you work from home.

Cozy sweater

As the weather outside gets colder, you might want to wear a cozy sweater as you work from home. A sweater is the perfect way to keep yourself warm and comfy while still looking cute. You can opt for a more casual sweatshirt with your school’s logo on it, or you can reach for a more formal knit sweater or printed sweater. You could even try a zip-up hoodie that you can easily take off if your room gets too warm. Clearly, there are many different types of sweaters you can choose to wear when you work from home.

Comfy knit cardigan

If you don’t want to wear a sweater but you still want to keep warm, consider wearing a cardigan! Just like sweaters, there are many types of cardigans you can choose to wear. You can choose a heavier, knit cardigan that will keep you very warm and toasty (this is my personal favorite type of cardigan). Additionally, you can choose a cardigan made of a lighter fabric that’s more like a shawl or a wrap, if you don’t need something so heavy. You can choose to wear whichever cardigan best suits your style when you work from home.

T-shirt dress

For something lighter than a sweater or a cardigan, you can choose to wear a t-shirt dress. This type of dress is so comfy and easy to wear, since it’s like a long t-shirt. It’s made of the same light, airy fabric that t-shirts are made of. You just need to throw it on, and you’re good to go! A t-shirt dress is a perfect outfit for working from home.

Now, let’s discuss some bottom pieces you can wear while you work from home.

Stretchy leggings

There is a reason why stretchy leggings are a work from home fashion favorite! Leggings are comfy and easy to wear while you are at home. You can wear them underneath a t-shirt dress, or under a regular t-shirt. Bonus points if your leggings are soft and breathable since they are much comfier than typical work pants.

Pajama pants

Although this is the least “professional” item on the list, let’s be honest, everyone will wear pajama pants at least once as they work from home. They are airy, light, and comfortable, and are certainly easier to wear than work pants. However, I wouldn’t recommend wearing them all the time, because you might be tempted to fall asleep as you work, since pajamas are sleeping clothes.

Fuzzy socks

Instead of wearing uncomfortable shoes for work, you can wear comfortable footwear when you work from home! My favorite type of footwear to wear at home is fuzzy socks. They will keep your feet warm and cozy as you work from home. You can also choose to wear slippers or flip-flops!

Blue light blocking glasses

When you work from home, you will likely be staring at a screen for a long period of time. Spending a lot of time on a computer or a phone can cause strain on your eyes because of the blue light. This is especially true at night since the blue light can make it harder for you to fall asleep. To protect your eyes, consider wearing blue light blocking glasses that will block the blue light.

And if you have a video call meeting…

If you have a video call or virtual meeting, you will need to dress up a little bit, because the way you dress determines your mindset, and you need to be in a “work” mindset when you participate in a virtual meeting. You would not show up to your workplace wearing pajama pants and a hoodie, so you should definitely not wear those things when you have a virtual meeting. If you dress up for your meeting, you will not only look more professional, but your mind will switch from “rest mode” to “working mode.” You will be more focused and ready to participate in your meeting when you look the part. So instead of wearing leggings, comfy t-shirts, and a cardigan, consider wearing:

Work blouse

A blouse is a beautiful, professional item of clothing to wear if you have a virtual meeting. If a blouse is appropriate for the workplace, it will be appropriate for your virtual meeting.

Chic blazer

If your room is cold, you can consider wearing a chic blazer that you would wear to your workplace. You will be warm while also looking professional!

Sophisticated dress

If you really want to look professional, you can opt for a sophisticated work dress. Dresses are a quick, easy piece of clothing that will make you look good as you work and during your meeting.

As you work from home, you can wear more casual clothing. However, be sure that your choice of clothing reflects your professionalism and focus on your work. This is especially true if you have a virtual meeting.
